WHAT DOES PAG'S TREATS TASTE LIKE?
When first designing the recipe for Pag's Treats , I wanted to create a dark chocolate that is just as indulgent as milk chocolate. this was because when I gave up cows milk I missed the meltiness, creaminess and moreish qualities of milk chocolate. With dark chocolate sometimes it can too rich and bitter, vegan milk chocolates can lose the taste of chocolate, starting to become cheap tasting.
Pag's Treats has created a chocolate that is rich and flavoursome, sweet, not bitter and is so soft so it will smoothly melt in the mouth.
ONCE I RECEIVE MY ORDER HOW SHOULD I STORE IT?
It will be tasting its yummiest before 3 months from when it has been made if stored in a cool, dry and airtight environment. On each item of your order will be a best before date. The chocolates will still perfectly fine to eat after this time if they have been stored correctly (for up to 1 year).
ARE YOUR PRODUCTS OKAY FOR ALLERGY SUFFERERS?
All of our products are Vegan and hand made. However, we source our ingredients from all different locations. This means a lot of my ingredients contain allergen “May contain” warnings, due to different products being handled in the same factories. Unfortunately this means at the minute all of our chocolates contain the warning “May contain traces of nuts, peanuts, sesame seeds, gluten and milk”. Unfortunately this means they are not suitable for people who suffer severe allergies to the ingredients above, but would be suitable for people who are lactose intolerant or have non-severe intolerances. We would also like to add that a lot of our chocolates available at the moment are naturally soy free. For my full list of ingredients and allergen warnings see the section below.

WHERE DO YOU SOURCE YOUR CACAO PRODUCTS?
We source our Cocoa Powder from a trusted wholefood retailer. The Cocoa Powder at the moment is not organic or raw but it has a delicious rich Cocoa taste.
The Criollo cacao beans used to make my cacao butter are grown in the Peruvian amazon. This is sourced from a wholefood retailer who certify this butter as organic. They are not roasted, alkalized, refined or deodorised - keeping the delicious chocolate scent and means the butter is raw (we try our best to keep the butter raw during the melting process by not overheating). Peruvian cacao is well suited to agroforestry systems, which have less environmental impact compared to plantations in West Africa. This makes Peruvian cacao a more sustainable option than other cacao such as those sourced from West Africa.
WHY IS PAG'S TREATS CHOCOLATE BETTER THAN OTHER COMPETITION?
The total Cacao percentage for our chocolate is 60% minimum. This means that at least 60% of the chocolate is made from both Cacao butter and powder. In comparison to the popular Cadbury Bournville which has a percentage of 36 which is considerably lower. In addition the popular Moo Free “Mylk” Bar contains 45% Cacao solids. ichoc “Mylk” bar just 37%. Having a high percentage means that the chocolate is of higher quality, has less of other non-chocolate ingredients and is more expensive to make.
Both ichoc and Bournville have sugar as their 1st listed ingredient which means that the bar is majority sugar over actual chocolate ingredients. Pag’s Treats contains more Cacao butter than Sugar.
In addition, with a lot of other commercial brands, chocolate is often “cut” with other non-animal fats. This reduces the production cost making the chocolate cheaper and consequently worse quality. For example, Bournville contains Palm and Shea oil as well as other non specified fats. Pag’s Treats chocolates contain no other fats other than the Cacao butter itself. This also means our chocolate is palm oil free. However some of our products are not palm oil free due to the other ingredients, for example Oreo's in the Oreo bar. Our chocolate has a high percentage of Cacao in comparison with other vegan chocolates, this ensures it is of good premium quality. Also Raw Cacao is packed full of antioxidants (40 x the amount in Blueberries), it is the highest plant source of iron, it is high in magnesium, it has more calcium than cows milk and finally is scientifically proven to stimulate the release of feel good endorphins in the brain. We can definitely vouch for this; we don’t know about you but we're happiest when eating good chocolate!
IS PAG'S TREATS ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE?
As well as vegan we are also enthusiastic environmentalist's and want nothing more than to be as eco-friendly as possible. From January 2019 all chocolates are being wrapped in Natureflex. This material is home compostable (takes around 8 weeks) and is made from wood pulp not plastic! this massively reduces our plastic waste and increases our business sustainability!
In addition to this we already source my cacao butter from a country where it is more sustainable to grow (Peruvian Amazon) compared to countries where growth is not as supported by the agroforestry systems such as West Africa.
Finally, Vegan chocolate is more environmentally sustainable than dairy chocolate. The production of milk in dairy farms has a severe impact on our greenhouse gas emissions, leading to increased global warming. By choosing dairy free chocolate it is definitely a more environmentally friendly way of fixing those chocolate cravings!
